Q. WHEN WOULD YOU USE A MEMBRANE?

A. Normally you would use a Membrane below ground (e.g. a cellar or basement), but you can use them above ground, if you have a 'salts' problem, a cold wall or stained chimney breast, for example.

Q. CAN YOU USE A MEMBRANE ABOVE GROUND?

A. Yes you can, the type of Membrane depending upon the problem.

Q. I HAVE AN OLD ROUGH WALL. CAN I USE A MEMBRANE?

A. Yes you can. We suggest Kontract Membrane - fewer holes to drill. For very uneven, out of line or loose walls you can use a timber 'stud' frame to hold the Membrane in place and no plugs are required.

Q. IS IT EASY TO FIT?

A. Yes, its easier than hanging wallpaper, apart from the fact that you have to drill a few holes into the wall.

Q. DO I HAVE TO REMOVE THE PLASTER BEFORE APPLYING THE MEMBRANE?

A. If you have a Gypsum or Bonding plaster on the wall you will have to remove it. However, if you have a good, hard sand and cement render on the wall you can leave it there, as long as it can withstand the drilling. Always remove loose paint and all wallpaper.

Q. IN WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES WILL I NEED TO DO A SEALED SYSTEM RATHER THAN A VENTILATED SYSTEM?

A. You will need a sealed system is if you are in a high flood area, with water pooling on the floor, or if there has ever been liquid water present in the past.

Q. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SLIMLINE AND STANDARD MEMBRANE?

A. The Slimline Membrane is 3mm thick and the Standard Membrane is 8mm thick - this allows you to choose the best thickness for matching existing plaster.

Q. CAN I USE THIS MEMBRANE OUTSIDE?

A. You can only use the Mesh Membrane outside and render straight on top of it. However, you will need a lot of plugs to hold the weight of the render, so it is rarely used for this purpose.

Q. WHAT DO I USE TO FIX IT TO THE WALL?

A. All the plugs and tape come with the Kit. All you will need is scissors to cut the Membrane, and an electric drill so you can drill holes, plus a hammer to bang plugs in.

Q. DOES IT COME AS A COMPLETE KIT?

A. Yes, we even cut the rolls to size!
